- Three coordinated woodblock style prints, and in each the cat IS the city: a black cat walking in side profile, tail held high, its legs and belly a dense town of cream cube houses with tiny square windows; a cat standing tall on four paws, tail curled high, its body built around a tiered castle keep on sloped stone walls with an arched gate; and a cat seated with its back to you, glancing over its shoulder, a lane of wooden shopfronts with tiled eaves and pale fabric awnings running through it into the mist.
- A low vermilion sun sets in every print over faded pagoda spires on the horizon, with a small red seal.
- Look closer, the cat is the city.

One evening, three hidden towns
A sunset woodblock style set in sumi black, warm cream and vermilion.
How a town fits inside a cat
Japanese poster art is having a moment, and most of it repeats the same few famous images. This set is something new: three flat woodblock style black cats at sundown, and inside each one a little Japanese town, cube houses, a castle keep, a lane of shops with fabric awnings.
Hidden-picture cats have a long, playful history: Edo-period woodblock artists like Utagawa Kuniyoshi loved prints where cats came together to form something else. The Evening Market Trio borrows that spirit and redraws it from scratch for a modern wall: calm from across the room, full of streets up close.
